Boards-Commissions :: West Mifflin Borough Government Website

The Borough has several Boards and Commissions that assist in the operations of the Borough. The following is a listing of the Boards and Commissions. Residents who may have an interest in serving on a particular Board should submit a resume to the office of the Borough Manager to be kept on file should a vacancy occur.

PLANNING COMMISSION: 5 Members ~ 4 Year Term
Serves in an advisory capacity to Borough Council and deals with the following:

Makes recommendations concerning the adoption or amendment of a zoning ordinance and official zoning map for the Borough.
Prepares, recommends and administers sub-division, land development and planned residential development regulations.
Prepares a comprehensive plan for development for the Borough for consideration by Borough Council.

ZONING HEARING BOARD: 3 Members ~ 3 Year Term
Serves as an independent adjudicator in matters pertaining to the interpretation of the Borough Zoning Ordinance. A Case heard before the Board would deal with issues such as:

Challenges to the validity of a land use ordinance.
Appeals from the determination of the Zoning Officer in regard to the interpretation of the Borough Zoning Ordinance.
Receiving applications for variances or special exceptions from the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance.

CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION: 3 Members ~ 6 Year Term
This commission is responsible for adminstering the Civil Service Rules and regulations of the Borough that set the rules for the hiring, promotion, discipline and termination of Police officers of the Borough.

STREETS RUN WATERSHED ASSOCIATION: 1 Member ~ 1 Year Term
An organization to which the Borough belongs formed to promote the restoration and enhancement of natural resources through flood protection and prevention along Streets Run Road and the area that comprises the Streets Run Watershed.

POLICE PENSION COMMITTEE: 3 Members ~ 3 Year Term
This committee serves to advise on and monitor the provisions of the Police Pension Plan to ensure that the pension plan is being administered within the guidelines established by Ordinance of Borough Council.

EMPLOYEE PENSION COMMITTEE: 3 Members ~ 3 Year Term
This committee advises on and monitors the revisions of the Employee’s Pension Plan to ensure that the pension plan is being administered within the guidelines established by Ordinance of Borough Council.

SANITARY SEWER MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY: 5 Members ~ 5 Year Term
This entity owns the sewage treatment and snitary sewer system within the Borough and as such is responsible for the the total operation, maintenance and capital improvement of the two sewage treatment plants, thirteen pump stations and over 95 miles of sanitary sewer lines that run throughout the Borough.
